There’s a lot to recommend staying off the main roads and away from street cams. For one thing, the scenery is bound to be better, but there are plenty of other reasons to avoid wide notice.
The real work of the world, the labor that upholds our existence and keeps us nourished and in purposeful motion, is done by folk we’ll probably never know and whose faces are unlikely ever to appear on a screen or in a newspaper.
Plain folk know who they are, even when nobody else does. The rich and famous tend to fall in love with their own shadows and never look up to face themselves. Public notoriety is a mirror where we only see ourselves backwards.
