A planting day-
in hope of flowers...
Sadie’s little brown truck chugged up the hill with two saucer magnolias (Magnolia x soulangiana) just as I finished loading Sue with pots, soil and tools. Ten minutes later, we were unboxing the trees down at the Main Muse’s studio on Nostalgia Court. We had them situated in their pots in time for tea.
The Little Gem cultivar is smaller and more compact that most southern magnolias, well suited for containers, and will bloom for around two months through the summer, so the plant guides say. We wait in hope.
The oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) our friend Grace bestowed on my birthday also found a place in the dooryard today. It is definitely planning to bloom this spring (below). I love the shape of this plant. It will grow into a beauty, and likely will produce some impressive offspring if the gardener sticks to his job.
Walk in hope-
