A garden may be compared to many things,
essentially, it is the accumulated evidence
of one gardener’s desiring to disappear.

A place where love dares clothe some holy
ground with stone and water and living green,
a place to wage peace and study war no more.

A hiding place for some, to become unaware
of the violent sufferings that plague our kind,
though gardens open onto a different world.

There patient love outlasts the longest winter,
while brutal hate and greed devour themselves
and hopes, though broken, buried, yet arising.
